The origin of the various villages which later gave rise to Erba is quite old. The site was in fact inhabited during the Roman era, and there would follow the Orobi, the Ligurians and Celts. The second especially left their customs. In the nineteenth century, the area was an important tourist center of the Brianza area, and is evidenced by the numerous villas that still stand.
The city is located in an area made attractive by the lakes of Alserio and Pusiano.
